To date, at least twelve members of the Toll family have been identified. This family of type I transmembrane proteins is characterized by an extracellular domain with leucine-rich repeats and a cytoplasmic domain with homology to the type I IL-1 receptor. In the innate immunity system, TLRs recognize molecular patterns associated with microbial pathogens and induce antimicrobial immune responses. TLR3 recognizes double-stranded (ds)RNA and induces the activation of NF-κB, through MyD88-dependent and -independent pathways and the production of type I interferons (IFNs). Immunoblotting with this antibody gives a MW of ~120 kDa in mTLR3 transfected cells.
