Noxa is a BH3-only member of the bcl2 pro-apoptotic family. Expression is dependent on p53 expression. Under hypoxic conditions the protein is induced via HIF1 alpha. Down-regulation or blocking expression leads to suppression of apoptosis; thereby suggesting a therapeutic use for reagents that reduce expression. Further supporting this is Noxa’s overexpression in mantle cell lymphoma. In immunoblots a higher molecular weight band (about 34 kDa) has also been observed.
